TALESH

Covering an area of 872,2155 sq km, talesh is located in the coastal region and the farthest west of gilan. The city is bounded on the north by astara, on east by the Caspian sea, on the west by khalkhal and ardabil mountain ranges, and on the south by rezvanshahr.

Part of this city is mountainous strectching along talesh high mountains from the north to the south direction. Another part is plain locating like a narrow line between the mountains and the Caspian sea. Talesh enjoys four seasons being famous for its great natural beauties and the first-rank tourist destination in Iran.

44% of the people are Sunni Moslems living peacefully along with shiah ones. The solidarity and unity of these two religious groups and  their family relationships show their warm-heartedness and rich culture.

The tat the talesh, major inhabitants of the region, enjoyed a stable and ancient history and played a major role in forming the structure of gilan’s culture. The talesh are the tribes know as the  kadoos or the katoozi and the median lived here from antiquity. They had absolute authority over the region in the past. Their tribal life, in the heights or valleys, was based on the different seasons keeping their tribal homogeneity for the time being. Taleshi dialect is common in plain areas and galeshi dialect in highland areas. Talesh township is  composed of four districts of centeral, asalam, haviq and karkanrood.

Rice, tobacco, fruit crops and patch products are major agricultural products. Sericulture, sock-knitting, felt weaving, coarse-knitting, and a special shawl from wool are among the handicrafts of talesh.

It should be mentioned that there are there active companies in talesh named as wood industry Co. (CHOKA), Shafarood Co. and Iran wood industry Co.

This city enjoys three natural privileges. First, it is located in the foothills surrounded by spectacularly jungle-covered mountains from the west. Second, karganrood fast-flowing river (the largest river of talesh) runs through the city. Third. Talesh is the major urbanized city on the way from Bandar anzali to astara.

Gisoom jungle park-gisoom coastal beaches-sobatan and Aq-Evlar Countryside-Asalam to Khalkhal Mountain road-lisar Castle known as Salsal castle (Islamili period)-nasrollah khan summer and winter castles (know as sardar Amjad)-Aq-Evlar Old Bath (Safavid Period)-Tool, Tandavin and Maryan Ancient Areas).

Shah milarzan mausoleum-mausoleums of Aqa seyyed ahmad nal torbeh, seyyed sultan, and siah alam khaleh sar-seyyed sharaf shah mausoleum.
