BANDAR ANZALI


Bandar anzali, a nice and old city, is the most important port city in north of Iran. It is located on the southwestern coast of the Caspian sea, 40 km far from rasht. It has been divided to two districts of Qazian and anzali wich were separated by a moveable bridge in the past. This city has two important aspects. First, it is the most important commercial port of Iran. Second, its sandy beach provides a unique situation for attracting tourists to relax and enjoy recreational activities. This beautiful port city has got a lot of recreational places and facilities to accommodate and receive tourists and visitions.

There are several opinions about the name of the city. i.e. Anzali. Russians were among the old citizens of anzali name it ‘zanzali’ (means Stay and Stop). It is said that the commander of Arab army while arriving at this place ordered his troops to stay and in arabic language it is pronounced ‘Anzal’. Also it is known as harbor or gate in some regions. However, some believe that there were two brothers named Qazian khan and anzal khan who were founders of this city. the two districts of Anzali were named after these brothers.

Bandar-e Anzali has got ties with the former Russia a long time ago. So it was one of the transportation routes to the west and it came to be known as ‘The European Gate’. Straw-weaving, woodworking and miniature painting are the main handicrafts of the region.

Anzali international wetland – beach park – sar khangol wetland – sangachin & kaporchal beach resorts – mian poshteh museum palace – light house – harbor and breakwater – clock tower – Qazian old bridge – city hall edifice and the navy museum.

PILGRIMAGE & RELIGIOUS SITES:

Holy shrines of bibi hoorieh shalivar and imamzadeh saleh in Qazian- shrines of Aqa seyyed mohammad najafi (Qazizan) and imamzadeh ibrahim.
