AMLASH

Amlash is a historical city located 75 km far from rasht in a highland area. Shalmanrood river divided the city into two parts. Since the river became stagnant in the past, the city was known as ablash (stagnant water) and gradually changed to amlash amlash township consists of two districts of central and ranekooh and its economy depends on animal husbandry and agriculture. Tea, rice, and wheat are among the most important agricultural products. The plain settlers are involving in cow breeding, poultry, and sericulture or the raising of silkworms; and apiculture or beekeeping in the highlands. Besides, people of the region are very skilled in pottery and felt-knitting.

Seh shanbe (Tuesday) bazzar of amlash is a good representation of traditional markets in gilan flourishing the trade by the full participation of indigenous people. Local people call these daily markets as “galesh bazzars”.
